This is the clearest lake in the world. And a very fine lake it is. Klaus Thymann captured this and other stunning photos of New Zealand’s Blue Lake, 95% as clear as distilled water. Its source is filtered by mountain rocks and it’s above the treeline, so it misses out on most runoff.

Rotomairewhenua (original Maori name) has been reported to have a clarity of roughly 75 meters, which means you can see through 75 meters (250 feet,) distilled water has a clarity of roughly 80 meters. This is 12 meters deeper than the 63 meters of the next clearest lake in the world, Te Waikoropupu Springs, which also happens to be in New Zealand.

Quick, messy graphic to explain a concept that seems obvious to me:
We shouldn’t be helping women because they’re related to someone else. We shouldn’t be helping women because someone else cares about them. We should be helping women because they are people.
We should be helping women for their own sake.
Why is that a hard concept for people to grasp?

In 1936 Walter Plunkett made this lovely dressing gown for A Woman Rebels, which starred Katherine Hepburn. She would wear this beautiful paisley robe in the film, and three years later, when Plunkett worked on Gone With the Wind, he took his creation and made some slight adjustments for Vivien Leigh, making some modifications to the back of the garment, and adding mink to the collar and the slashes on the sleeves.

people are boycotting the Kraft commercials for the “Zesty” salad topping because it features a topless man in compromising situations.

people are boycotting it because it sexualizes a man.

people are boycotting a commercial that features one of the oldest marketing strategies because this time it’s a man being exploited.
